Galamsey: Eight trapped and killed in caved pit at Denkyira West
Eight illegal miners have met their untimely death on Wednesday 25th November 2020 after the mining pit collapsed on them.
The tragedy occurred at Ayanfari a community in upper Denkyira west district in the central region of Ghana
Speaking to Mohammed Radiu Dinn Rasko a freelance journalist, DSP Jones Edummud Afutu the Dunkwa district police commander, confirmed the story to media,saying the incident happened around 7:30 pm on Wednesday November 25th 2020 when they were working in the illegal mining pit.
He also said the pit collapsed on two of them, the rest try to rescue them and unfortunately the pit also collapsed on them.
The member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira west Hon Samuel Nsowaa explains his shock and advice the youth to adhere to the rules hoovering their work.
The NADMO coordinating director for Upper Denkyira West Mr. Isaac Gyasi therefore urged the family of the deceased to keep calm for all research Will be done.
Since the case has been reported to Dunkwa district police command, who have launched full-scale investigation into the unfortunately incident.
The bodies of the deceased has been since deposited at Dunkwa municipal government hospital morgue for autopsy.
