Counsel for Power FM host unhappy about client's detention
Kodwuga Adawudu, one of the lawyers for the troubled Power FM host, has expressed his unhappiness with the detention of Oheneba Boamah.
The radio presenter was arrested for allegedly threatening President Akufo-Addo and insulting him.
Mr. Adawudu says they are not pleased with the decision of the police to keep him in custody while his crime can be bailed out.
"The police only said they were taking him somewhere and we realized he has been detained, we went to ask for a bail the police has the right to give us bail within 48 hours if they refuse we will go to court , they can't continue to keep him beyond 48 hours"
The Ghana Police Service's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained the Accra-based radio presenter on Monday, December 14, 2020, for allegedly intimidating and insulting President Akufo-Addo.
Oheneba Boamah, 36, is helping with inquiries by the police.
He was warned of offenses of aggressive conduct leading to breaks of peace and the disclosure of false news according to sections 207 and 208 (1) of the Criminal and Other Crimes Act, Act 29/60.
Oheneba Boamah is said to have recorded on his Facebook page a live video in which he was heard threatening the President of the Republic of Ghana and issuing a series of threats.
In a letter to the management of Power FM, the police demanded that Mr. Bennie be released on Monday to report to "Superintendent/1U at CID Headquarters, 4th floor, Room 13." At 1000 hours, 14/12/2020 to help with inquiries. The Paraphrase button is pressed.
