" I am a member of the NPP by blood" - Fomena MP-elect makes up mind to join NPP in parliament

Fomena's Member of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, says that in the 8th Parliament, after winning his seat as an independent candidate, he will side with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On Wednesday, speaking to the press, he said: "I said that I won the party. I have no place to go. My blood, my DNA, all my stuff are NPP."

Many wondered whether Mr. Asiamah would side with his old party, with speculation about whether the NPP would hold a majority in Parliament.

With the NPP emerging with 137 seats and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with 136 seats, the parliamentary rally in the 2020 election was the nearest in Ghana's recent history.

In addition to the seat won by Mr. Asiamaha, there is one seat outstanding.

According to the MP, even as an independent candidate he won the 2020 elections, his constituents have urged him to affiliate with the NPP.

Mr. Asiamah, reiterating his comments made before the elections, thus reiterated that his loyalty to the NPP was never in doubt.

“I am taking this decision with the prior recognition of my constituents. I am not speaking just for myself. I am speaking for my people. What they told me is what I am speaking out. My people are saying in spite of whatever happened, I should still be with NPP.”
