Inauguration of President-elect, Nana Addo, to take place in Parliament

Inauguration of President-elect, Nana Addo, to take place in Parliament

For his second term, the inauguration of President-elect, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo, is scheduled to take place this time around in the parliament house instead of Independence Square because of COVID-19 protocol.

Preparations are already ongoing for the gathering of 7 January.

In order to hold the inaugural ceremony in the midst of Coronavirus, temporary structures were raised at the carpark of the parliament house with bitumen overlay.

Ideally, the Constitution strictly stipulates that any new president must be sworn in before Parliament, but this time the story will be different so that they will not have to make their journey all the way to the black star square after swearing at midnight on 6 January in the 8th parliament, instead they will simply travel to the above-mentioned venue for the inauguration ceremony.

This would allow way for Members of Parliament to be appropriately staggered in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols, according to the inaugural team.
