The best doesn't always win in Democracy - Manasseh Azure to Dr Oko Boye

The investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, wrote on the loss of the Ledzokuku Member of Parliament, Dr. Benard Okoe Boye.

After receiving 54,072 votes, Dr Okoe, who doubles as Deputy Minister of Health, lost the seat, compared to the 55,938 won by Ayiku Narteh of the NDC.

In spite of the fact that Ledzokuku has an interesting voting pattern, many have expressed shock about the outcome of the elections.

Many tipped Okoe Boye to win the seat, and he has recently been praised as one of the brightest politicians, but that didn't happen.

Manasseh, who in a post entered a list of shocked Ghanaians, suggested that the strongest doesn't always win an election.

He wrote in a Twitter post: 'In a democracy, the best doesn't always win#Dr. Boye, Okoe Boye.

"The very day the elections were completed, Okoe Boye conceded defeat and he wrote, "I am grateful to my constituents for the opportunity in the past four years to serve them. Congratulations to Ben Ayiku, the elected Ledzokuku MP. We thank him in all things. Let's build this country together with or without a political office for it is our efforts now that will create the Ghana we want for our children.

In the meantime, pollster Ben Ephson indicated that the complexities of his defeat may have been accounted for by some past decisions that were very important and necessary, but impacted his constituents.

The MP who doubled as deputy health minister, he said, may have contributed to the arrest during the Homowo festival of some of his constituents who defied COVID-19 protocols.

Unfortunately, this, he thinks, may have affected his chances. However, Mr. Ephson maintains that it was a choice that had to be made to ensure discipline.
