Top three (3) parliamentary seats to keep an eye on

The 2020 Ghana election is finally here. 275 parliamentary seats will be up for grasp. We take a look at 3 of those seats that will be keenly contested.

1. AYAWASO WEST WUOGON

If there’s any constituency that will attract the attention of the masses, then it is the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Considered as literally the most developed constituency in Ghana, the parliamentary seat in the constituency has been won by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the last 4 elections by a landslide.

However, things promise to be competitive and stiffer this time round. The incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who replaced her late husband Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko in January 2019 after winning the By-elections will face competition from famous actor John Dumelo.

Though the constituency looks like an NPP stronghold, John Dumelo has been tipped to give Lydia Seyram Alhassan a close competition.

2. MFANTSEMAN

Not many people will like to rehear the stories surrounding the Mfantseman constituency. The young constituency lost their member of parliament just few months ago, Hon. Ekow Hayford was gruesomely murdered by some unknown assailants, but that didn’t affect the plans of the NPP for the election.

The deceased MP was replaced by his wife Ophelia Hayford. The constituency was created in 2012 and the seat was first won by NDC’s Aquinas Tawiah Quansah with over 2000 votes.

Howbeit, tables turned and the seat was won by the late Ekow Hayford of NPP with a difference of 726 votes.

Considering the turn of events in recent months and the history of the constituency, it’ll be a place to keep an eye on.

3. SUAMAN

The Suaman constituency was the constituency that saw the tightest competition in the 2016 parliamentary elections. Stephen Michael Essuah Kofi Ackah of the NDC defeated Prof. Kojo Kwarteng of the Npp with just 12 votes.

The seat since it was created in 2004 has since been represented in parliament on the ticket of the NDC with quite a large margin until the NPP lost with a slim margin of 12 votes in 2016 general elections. Making it hard to predict how things might unfold this time round.

The constituency will this time round see new faces from both the NDC and NPP. The NPP will be represented by Frederick Addy, whiles the NDC will be represented by Joseph Betino.

OTHERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON

Other constituencies to keep an eye on are: Dormaa West, Tain, Pru West, Upper West Akim, Adenta, Zabzugu, Krachi East, Salaga South, Sefwi-Akontombra and Asawase.
