EOCO detains 11 health workers over selling of babies
EOCO's Economic and Organized Crime Office has detained eleven individuals at some health centers in Accra in connection with child harvesting and human trafficking.
The eleven include physicians, nurses, workers of social services and the babies' mothers.
They were arrested in a joint operation at Ridge Hospital and Tema General Hospital by EOCO and the Ghana Medical and Dental Council in December 2020.
The two baby boys were sold by the suspects in the process at a price of GHS30,000 and GHS 28,000 respectively.
Executive Director of EOCO, COP Retired Frank Adu-Poku, addressing the media, said that the suspects were currently granted bail pending further investigations.
"As a result of these investigations, two medical doctors, two social workers, four nurses, two mothers and one traditional birth attendant have been arrested so far and are on bail pending further investigations. We currently have in our possession two baby boys who were bought as a result of the operation.”
