Erik ten Hag explains why Mohammed Kudus is still not playing for Ajax
Ajax Amsterdam |
Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag has stated that Mohammed Kudus will stay out of Ajax matchday squads for a while.
Kudus returned to action earlier this month after a three-months layoff because of a knee injury he sustained in October’s UEFA Champions League game against Liverpool.
The 20-year-old saw 10 minutes of action in Ajax’s 2-2 draw against rivals PSV a fortnight ago, but has been left out in their last two Eredivisie games against FC Twente and Feyenoord.
Speaking to the media after Sunday’s 1-0 victory against Feyenoord, Erik ten Hag revealed that the youngster felt a discomfort when he came on against PSV and has been left out in the last Eredivisie matchday squads as a precautionary measure.
“We are not taking any chances with that boy,” Erik ten Hag told ESPN after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Feyenoord.
“He doesn’t feel completely comfortable after last week, so he stays aside for a while, but he did train last week,” he added.
Kudus was again omitted from the team that faced Az Alkmaar in the Quarterfinals of the KNVB beker on Wednesday night.
The youngster since joining Ajax in the summer from Nordsjaelland has been excellent, picking up multiple man of the match awards. A progress which was halted by the knee injury he suffered against Liverpool.
