Kafaba: Soothsayer and one other remanded as alleged lynching trial begins

A Tamale Court presided over by his Lordship Justice Richard M. Kagyapwah on Monday January 18, 2021 remanded into prison custody two suspects in the alleged lynching of Akua Denteh, in Kafaba in the Savanah region of Ghana.
The two namely Serena Mohammed and Latifah Bumaye were arrested by the Salaga Divisional Police Command days after videos of a mob attacking an elderly woman in Kafaba, a community in Salaga emerged.
Reports indicate the victim whose identity was later given as Akua Denteh, about 90 years was subjected to an exorcism rite by Serena Mohammed after she was accused of witchcraft by some community folks.
Latifah Bumaye on the other hand was captured in the viral video physically assaulting the victim while she pleaded for mercy. Both women went into hiding after the Salaga Divisional Police declared them wanted.

A Police sitrep shared with www.zamireports.com reveals trial has fully commenced with the two suspects remanded into prison custody in the Northern regional capital Tamale.

On 18/1/2021 at about 1045 hours, accused persons Hajia Serena Mohammed and Latifah Bumaye appeared before the Tamale High Court One, presided over by His Lordship Justice Richard M. Kagyapwah. Counsel for the accused persons as well as the seven member juror were present. State prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Department, Tamale were also present.The trial of the accused persons has commenced. They were however remanded back into the Tamale Central Prisons to re appear on the 22/2/21 for continuation
