Legon Cities pick first win of the season, Dreams, Wonders & Chelsea end winless run, Kotoko ease pass Liberty, Hearts draw: Gameweek 8 Review

As usual, the Premier league presented us with another set of enthralling fixtures. Legon Cities recorded their first win of the season. Berekum Chelsea, Eleven Wonders, Medeama and Dreams FC bounced back to winning ways.
Hearts of Oak and King Faisal picked crucial points away from home, whiles Kotoko eased pass Liberty Professionals.
We take a look at how things unfolded in all 9 games:
LEGON CITIES 1-0 WAFA
Legon Cities defeated WAFA 1-0 to record their first win of the season after 8 games. The first half of the game ended scoreless, both sides failed to create any clear cut opportunity. Legon Cities commenced the second half on a brighter note and were rewarded with a spot kick in the 47th minute, youngster Mathew Anim Cudjoe was brought down. Joseph Adjei stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to give Legon Cities the lead, his second goal his term. WAFA made some changes in attack with the hope of grabbing the equalizing goal, but to no avail. Baba Mahama was sent off in the dying embers of the game, he was shown a second yellow for obstructing the goalkeeper.

MEDEAMA 2-1 ADUANA STARS
Isaac Agyenim Boateng scored twice to inspire Medeama to a 2-1 victory against Aduana Stars. Agyenim Boateng gave Medeama an early lead, he connected with a good layoff from Mohammed Abass to make it 1-0. The Mauve and Yellow were unable to protect their lead into the break, Bright Adjei scored for Aduana in the 28th minute to make it 1-1. Agyenim Boateng restored Medeama’s lead in the 73rd minute. Despite late pressure from Aduana Stars to equalize the goal, Medeama held on to snatch all 3 points and in the process pick their first 3 points at home this season.

GREAT OLYMPICS 1-2 ASHANTIGOLD
AshantiGold defeated Great Olympics 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium to go top of the Premier league table. The Miners started the game the better side, but found themselves a goal down in the 14th minute through a beautiful Gladson Awako strike from the edge of the box. Olympics were unable to protect their lead into the break, Amos Addai scored in additional time of the first half to make it 1-1. AshantiGold started the second half just like they finished the first, Yaw Annor who was introduced at the break scored to make it 2-1 to the Miners. Despite the late pressure from Olympics, AshantiGold held on to pick maximum points and go top of the league table.

BECHEM UNITED 1-1 KING FAISAL
King Faisal picked up an impressive point against Bechem United at the Nana Gyeabour park. The home side after missing a glorious opportunity through Stephen Owusu took the lead through Moro Salifu. King Faisal hit back just minutes into the second half, Kwame Peprah curled a beautiful shot pass the goalkeeper. The tempo of the game increased as both teams searched for the winner, but to no avail.

BEREKUM CHELSEA 1-0 INTER ALLIES
Berekum Chelsea got back to winning ways as they defeated Inter Allies 1-0. Inter Allies started the game the better side but found themselves a goal down after 13 minutes, Paul Agyei Attah pounced on a rebound to give Chelsea the lead. The remaining minutes of the game was mostly contested by both sides. Inter Allies came close to pulling parity in the dying minutes of the game, Nafiu Sulemana nicely connected with a cross from Fard Ibrahim, but his effort struck the post.

DREAMS 2-0 EBUSUA DWARFS
A brace from Precious Boah sunk Ebusua Dwarfs and in the process ended Dreams Fc’s winless run. The first half of the game ended scoreless, but it was Dreams who dominated the half. Dreams Fc continued the second half just like they played in the entire first half and had their reward in the 76th minute, substitute Precious Boah scored a free kick to make it 1-0. The Black Satellites striker made it 2-0 in the dying minutes of the game and in the process handed Dreams their first win in 6 games.

ELEVEN WONDERS 3-1 KARELA UNITED
Eleven Wonders defeated Karela United 3-1 to bounce back to winning ways. Mohammed Tetteh opened the scoring for Eleven Wonders in the 25th minute. Diawisie Taylor leveled the score in the 72nd minute, but that didn’t bog Eleven Wonders down. They regained the lead in the 79th minute through Nana Kobina Osoh. George Amponsah killed the game off in additional time, he scored to make it 3-1 for his side.

ELMINA SHARKS 1-1 HEARTS OF OAK
A second half header from Victor Aidoo ensured that Hearts of Oak walked away from the Ndoum Sports Complex with a point. Despite starting the better side and striking the post in the 3rd minute, Hearts of Oak found themselves a goal down in the 21st minute, James Bissue beat the Hearts defense and calmly beat the Richmond Ayi to give Sharks the lead. The Phobians pushed hard for the equalizing goal before the break, but were caught on the break in proccess, Justice Amoah failed to put the ball into an empty goal. Hearts of Oak pulled parity in the 63rd minute, Victor Aidoo headed in a good cross from skipper Fatawu Mohammed. Elmina Sharks were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute, Benjamin Arthur was shown a second yellow for a nasty tackle. Despite being a man down, Elmina Sharks mounted pressure on the Phobians and came close through Mohammed Issaka and Alhaji Mustafa.

ASANTE KOTOKO 2-0 LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS
Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Liberty Professionals 2-0 in the final game of the week. The Porcupine Warriors started the game the better side and nearly took the lead in the 2nd minute, Christopher Nettey pounced of a flick from Kwame Poku after a long ball by goalkeeper Razak Abalora, Netty lobbed the goalkeeper but his effort went wide. Kotoko continued to mount pressure on Liberty Professionals and game close on a number of occasions before breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute, Kwame Poku’s powerful drive in the 18 yard box deflected off a defender and went pass the goalkeeper. The Porcupine Warriors doubled their lead in the 19th minute, Kwame Poku received a good pass from Fabio Gama, made his way into the 18 yard box and lobbed the goalkeeper. There were many other chances in the remaining minutes of the game, but none of the teams could put the ball at the back of the net.
