NPP MPs troop up to Parliament to occupy majority seats ahead of reinstatement (Photos)
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of Parliament arrived in Parliament at dawn on January 15, 2021.
For hearings, which are scheduled to commence at 10 am, the MPs clad in white arrived as early as 4 am.
The majority side of the House was held by them and on the day of the 8th Parliament's inauguration, the NDC did the same.
NDC MPs, however, have yet to enter the House.
The first pledge of the House would be the resolution of who constitutes the House Majority and Minority.
It proved pointless to have three previous meetings in the House between the leadership of both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus to settle the matter.
Speaker Alban Bagbin will see today's meeting add finality to the matter.
Both NPP and NDC caucus leaders Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Haruna Iddrisu said at a separate Parliament news conference yesterday that they expect the Speaker to issue a fair ruling.
The election of 7 December 2020 left 137 seats each for the NDC and NPP, with one independent MP, Andrew Asiamah Amoah of Fomena, allied with the NPP.
This declaration is seen by the NPP party as a marker of its majority in Parliament.
Its chief, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, also said that at a meeting, the Speaker of Parliament said the decision of the Fomena MP would decide which side would be the majority.
