The breakdown of parliamentary and presidential inaugurations
Dissolution of the 7th Parliament started at 10pm on 6th January, 2020
NDC MPs took the position of the majority by sitting on the right hand side of the speaker which caused some commotion and was later resolved
Parliament was resolved at 12am midnight and there was a need for a speaker of parliament to be elected for the 8th Parliament.

NPP nominated former speaker of Parliament, RT Hon Prof Mike Ocquaye and the NDC nominated Hon. Alban Bagbin. Hon. Bagbin won the elections becoming the 8th Speaker of Parlaiment. He was sworn in around 10am on 7th January, 2020.
The Speaker sworn in members of parliament and later the house was asked to nominate first and second deputy speakers. Hon. Joe Osei Owusu was elected as the 1st Deputy Speaker and Hon. Andrew’s Amoako Asiamah the 2nd deputy speaker.
The sitting of the house was suspended for the inauguration of the President elect Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo at 12noon.
