Ghana receives covid-19 vaccine worth 600k
Covid-19 vaccine arrives today |
Some six hundred thousand doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (AZ/SII) have been given to Ghana.
These vaccines arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra today, February 24, 2021.
Out of a total of 2.4 million doses, this is the first batch of vaccines that Ghana is supposed to take.
The Minister-Designate for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, was at the airport receiving the vaccine.
According to the World Health Organization, Ghana is among 145 countries identified to receive vaccines from a variety of providers via the COVAX Facility (WHO).
Also, at a public engagement on Covid vaccination, the Information Minister-designate noted that government officials would publicly take doses of Covid-19 vaccines before the mass vaccination exercise.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that this is meant to help demystify public anxiety regarding vaccinations.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) will begin the Covid-19 vaccine mass vaccination exercise for selected segments of the population in March.
