The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the Medical and Dental Council have busted another suspected baby trafficking ring after extensive investigations.
According to EOCO's Executive Director, COP Frank Adu Poku (Rtd), the buying and sale of babies has been on the crime office's radar for the past three months, and four more people have been arrested for baby harvesting.
According to Mr. Frank Adu Poku, they currently have three babies in their care, all of whom are safe and healthy in a foster home awaiting the outcome of the cases.
He clarified that their organization received information in February 2020 that two women had allegedly gone to Susan Clinic in Lartebiokorshie, Accra, to buy an infant.
The ladies, Florence Acquah and Eleanor Ofori Nsiah, as well as Susan Clinic's Dr Hope Quarshie Mensah, were all arrested.
Dr Noah Kofi and Nancy Obayaa Lartey, who were both involved in baby harvesting at Tema General Hospital, were arrested and are now on EOCO investigation bail.
COP Frank Adu Poku (Rtd) also reported that they have received four petitions from victims as a result of the ongoing inquiries into Baby Harvesting, one of whom is a banker who was rushed to 37 Military Hospital in 2016 due to pregnancy complications.
Dr. Hope Mensah referred her to his private facility because she needed a bed, but after the baby was born, the doctor told her the baby would not survive, but she heard the baby scream.
As a result, he warned some faceless cowards who are intimidating EOCO and Medical and Dental Council officials that they would not relent in their efforts to stop organized crime.
