Students of GIJ protest management deferment order
GIJ students demonstration |
Students at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, GIJ, are protesting management's deferment directive.
Students gathered in front of the Osu-Ringway campus have been denied entry to the school grounds.
According to the on-duty security officers, the decision is "an order from above."
This comes after the GIJ administration issued a statement on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, instructing all students “who paid their fees after the registration deadline to defer their programme.”
The decision was made by management at "its meeting held on Monday, March 22, 2021” a day into their revision week in preparation for their first semester exams according to the communiqué.
Meanwhile, management and the Dean of Students will refrain from commenting on the situation "until further notice."
Lecturers, on the other hand, are permitted on campus.
However, students are dissatisfied with the directive and are demanding that it be repealed.
