On Saturday 27th February, 2021, the Zongo Business Incubator (ZOBI) celebrated its 4 years anniversary in an all-white Executive Cocktail and Networking event, with the theme; Celebrating Excellence and Impact in Promoting Entrepreneurship in Zongo Communities.
According the co-founder and former CEO, Mr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Daaru, the organization was born out of inspiration from various institutions: “4 years ago as YALI Alumni, I had the opportunity to be in Akron for a fellowship program. Zongo business incubator is direct consequence of three factors, the inspiration from Akron, the opportunities of Afro Arab Group and the practical research insight of the PPF project.
The organization was established and formed in a widely inclusive way as possible. We ensured that we mobilized a critical mass of the community youth and organization, and shared our concept note and provided open opportunities for interested persons to manage the organization.”
The Vision of ZOBI is to lead in promoting entrepreneurship, incubating and nurturing of new business in the Zongo Communities Nationwide with the ultimate objectives of Poverty reduction, Economic empowerment, and Job creation. Even though the organization hasn’t been free from challenges and obstacles, it has become very successful, progressive, impactful and sustainable; one that calls for celebration.
ZOBI has impacted about 700 youth and beneficiaries through our numerous entrepreneurship accelerator and incubation programs. Within the first year of its formation, it was selected as a partner to the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) under ministry of business development for the Presidential business support program. Under this program, the center has successful trained about 200 entrepreneurs and recommended some for funding ranging Ghc 10,000 to 100,000 Ghc Ghana Cedis.
The organization has learnt to appreciate, loyalty, professionalism and progress over perfection. It is for that purpose that today it has provided opportunity for some of its interns who have worked with the organization for key management role.
