As the call came that my yet to be father-in-law had confirmed the day for our man-to-man meeting, in furtherance of what he had been told — that I ‘claim’ I’m retiring him from duty — and that I want to subsume the responsibilities he had been leveling on his daughter for over two decades, I adjusted my position and started positing my thoughts for the very titanic task ahead.

This was a virgin hour of meeting the father of my beloved. So you should know how erratic I could erupt. For the offing two weeks to the meeting, I didn’t leave anything out. Even what I’ll adorn myself with to the meeting was also on my scale of preference. I needed to turn up well, albeit I don’t like appearing classy. A simple white “Jilbab” (a long cloak) can do wonders because I truly don’t have money, but I know I have some ‘sense’. That could be my cash cow. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

This was more than a parliamentary vetting for me to bear. Ah well! I don’t easily get intimidated by interviews. I’ve garnered a tinge level of experience from interviews. Besides, anytime I didn’t get to win a job offer, following an interview, “we move” turned to be the slogan. But with matters of the heart, I can’t be playing that bad card. I can’t gamble; I have to rather haggle. It needs to be a win-win approach, because the woman in question can’t go off my love-radar. I can’t just afford to lose - it’s expensive. So expensive, even psychologically.

The truth is I’ve written a novel which is yet to be published where I chronicled how a potential bridegroom met his in-law. I thus began questioning myself if I was going to be consigned to the same scenarios I’ve etched in the book. The faith I have in me darkened my fate very fatally, out of which I was fraught with a frantic danger. I was in state of heebie-jeebies! Things were simmering, and matters getting warmly meaty.

To be continued...
