French president Macron slapped during a walkabout (Video)
French police arrested a man on Tuesday for hitting President Emmanuel Macron during an official visit to the southeast of France.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the man is seen grasping the President's right hand before slapping him across the face.
President Macron sought to walk near the barrier as part of his tour in order to exchange pleasantries with local locals, but an unfortunate situation occurred.
Another individual has been arrested, according to reports, after a misunderstanding arose following the President's terrible occurrence.
On Tuesday, the French President traveled to Tain-l'Hermitage, just outside of Valence, to meet with the people and learn firsthand about some of the people's problems.
The few protesters gathered there were also chanting "Down with Macron-ism" as the President moved towards the barrier mounted, according to ghlense.net.
"While democracy means debate and genuine dissent," Prime Minister Jean Castex told the media, "it must never, in any event, entail violence, verbal assault, or even physical attack."
After the video went viral, far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and far-right leader Marine Le Pen both took to Twitter and tweeted solidarity messages to the President.
"While democratic debate can be acrimonious, it can never allow physical violence," Marine Le Pen stated.
