Employ professionals to effectively run the Ghana National Mosque - Muslims advised
The Ghana National Mosque situated at the Kawokudi park, Nima, has been commissioned on Friday July 16th, 2021.
The groundbreaking took place in 2012.
The ceremony was attended by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, first gentleman, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and vice president Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and other dignitaries.
The mosque, being the largest in West Africa currently, was largely funded by the Turkish Hudai Foundation with support from Turkish government and contributions from Ghanaian officials and other individuals.
It is a replica of Sultan Ahmed Mosque otherwise known as the "Blue Mosque" in Instanbul, Turkey.
Upon the opening of the mosque, muslims across have been advised by a social media user identified as Mubarak Iddris, popularly known as Sleek Shushu on Facebook.
According to Shushu, the mosque should be managed like how any profit making organization would oversee the affairs of it's company.
To him, Muslims have awfully failed in terms of maintainence and therefore, roles should be assigned to professionals who will see to the day-to-day activities of the mosque.
He also cautioned that beggars should not be entertained around the complex.
He urged muslims to abide by the rules and regulations of the complex so that they can always be proud when they look at it.
The mosque has an office complex for the National Chief Imam, a school, a clinic with laboratory and pharmacy and a morgue.

LETTER TO THE MUSLIM UMMAH OF GHANA
Salaamu Alaikum,
I was elated when I saw pictures of the noble National Chief Imam commissioning the national mosque. Anytime I see a mosque being commissioned, it is the first mosque that was built in Islam that comes to mind - Masjid Quba. Perhaps it’s because it was built under the supervision of Rasūl’Allāh ﷺ & Allah praised it in the Quran as the mosque that was built on taqwah. May Allah cleanse & beautify the hearts of the ummah of Ghana far more than the beautification of the mosque. Aameen!
I wanna use this opportunity to first & foremost pray to Allah to bless all those who invested in making this a possibility. From the gov’t of Ghana; past & current regimes, to the council of Imams, to the Turkish gov’t & the ummah for their contributions. May Allah reward every single person who supported either financially or physically. We appreciate it.
The next thing I’ve got in mind is the running of the complex. Correct me if I’m wrong, I heard from the grapevine that the Turks would be running the place themselves - like any serious organization in the World. I think it’s the way to go because we have failed as a nation in running our institutions, especially we as an Ummah.
But if the complex has been completely handed over to us & would be run by the committee that was formed, then we ought to employ that strategy of running a profit making organization. We cannot make our Imams the presidents, financial secretaries, headmasters, security personnels & all those posts that require rigorous study & experience. We have tried it & failed abysmally. Hence, professionals must be employed to run the place. We should get workers who’d keep the place neat on a daily basis. Maintenance culture would be crucial, we can’t joke with the millions invested to put up the structure.
Imams should lead prayers & open study circles in the masjid devoid of unnecessary controversies. The complex must be a seat of learning & research not an avenue for individuals to enrich themselves & promote their parochial interest. Beggars should not be tolerated in & around the complex.
The Senior High School should be run with strict rules & regulations. We can give preference to our people but the standard of the school should be top notch. We cannot make it an average SHS by admitting unqualified students just because they’re Muslims or relatives or people who subscribe to a certain sect.
That being said, if the complex will remain as complex known for islamic values, then we Muslims must check our behavior in & around the place.
DO NOT GO & STEAL ITEMS FROM THE COMPLEX.
DO NOT GO & FAN THE FLAMES OF FITNA IN THE COMPLEX.
DO NOT GO & LITTER THE PLACE OR USE THE WASHROOMS WITHOUT FLUSHING .
DO NOT GO & SLEEP IN THE MASJID; WORSHIP/LEARN & LEAVE!
DO NOT GO & BE BEGGING IN & AROUND MOSQUE.
DO NOT GO & DO ANYTHING UNISLAMIC THERE!!
OBEY ALL THE RULES & REGULATIONS of the complex so that we can always look at it & be proud as Muslims. Thank you!
Your Muslim brother,
BorlaBird
