IWD '22: The Affirmative Action of 30% has not been reached, we need to rise up against the biases - FOSDA
The Foundation for Security Development Africa (FOSDA) in collaboration with Centre for Muslim Youth in Peace and Development (CMYPD) has held the celebration for the 2022 International Women's Day at Nima.
The event celebrated women achievers annually. It was also an avenue for the organization to review all the works done towards gender equality and women empowerment as well as works done to ensure women participated and were equally represented politically and economically.
The event was based on the theme for this year's IWD celebration "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” where resource persons were brought to have panel discussions on what gender equality is. A question and answer session followed afterwards.

Speaking to the Ag. Executive Director, Theodora Anti, she said that biases facing women have been deeply rooted and are still persisting since the 1940s till this millennia. "We have 14% of women in parliament with 10% making up the government or the Executive. The Affirmative Action of 30% has not been reached. This year's theme is very apt and we need to rise up against the biases"
She also added that the different thing FOSDA has done this year was to hold the event at Nima. Previously, the organization had online events. They were able to reach out to grassroots women by sending the message to them in local language, sensitized and educated them on gender equality and women empowerment. Businesswomen, students and women from deprived backgrounds were directly engaged.
