Samuel Osei Kuffour responds to Asamoah’s Gyan comments on Ashimeru’s exclusion from Black Stars squad

Member of the Management Committee of the Black Stars, Samuel Osei Kuffuor has expressed his disappointment over comments made by former teammate Asamoah Gyan over the exclusion of Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru from the Black Stars squad to face Nigeria in the World Cup playoff.

Gyan, who’s Ghana’s all-time scorer with 51 goals in a Twitter post reacted angrily to the exclusion of the Anderlecht midfielder from the team to face Nigeria for a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be played in Qatar.

“This guy @MajeedAshimeru is the best midfielder in Ghana, after @Thomaspartey22 PERIOD. I have kept quiet on this but this nonsense must stop. Smh,” Asamoah Gyan wrote on Twitter.

Reacting to the comments from Gyan, Sammy Kuffour said: “I think he has his personal view on certain players, I personally have to respect his decision as a human being but putting that aside, we have to also go to the coaches, they have monitored every player but when you look at the statistics, how many matches has Majeed Ashimeru played,” the former Bayern Munich defender told Kumasi-based Kessben FM.

“I believe Asamoah Gyan is part of Ghana, he has captained this team and the little advise I have him is that, if something like this happen, maybe he can call one or two people but if you put on social media to use nonsense, I don’t think its fair,” he added.

Asamoah Gyan later apologized for the use of the word “nonsense”. However, he insisted that Majeed Ashimeru deserves a call-up.
