There should be an independent body to investigate Police attack on Journalists- Adib Saani

Adib Saani, Security Analyst

Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has opined that there should be an independent body that will be responsible for investigating Police assaults on Journalists.

He said this during the launch of the Inter-Media House Sports and Health Festival launch and Forum for Freedom of Speech at the Institute of Ghana Languages, Kanda, on May 7th, 2022.

In his speech, he emphasized the importance of protecting Journalists because when they are abused by police, no one hears the results of the investigations into the incident; instead, the public is told that the police officers were right after all.

“ There is the need to protect Journalists. These days, you hear about police assaulting a journalist then what usually happens is they tell us we are going to investigate within. Then it is shrouded in secrecy and you don’t know what goes into the investigation. They come out to say the police were right after all. This has happened on several occasions “

It is for this reason he suggests that an independent body be made to look into complaints against the Police Service for media practitioners.

He also added that there is a need for a partnership between the media and the police because they depend on each other to execute their work.

“There is a need for that collaboration between the media and the police. Trust me without the media, the police cannot do its work”

The Inter-Media House Sports and Health Festival has been planned to take place on the 27th and 28th of May, 2022 at the Madina AstroTurf, Accra.

Various media houses including XYZ, MaxTV, GNA, GBC, Happy FM, Atinka Media Village, Daily Guide, and Class Media Group will face each other in various outdoor games as part of keeping fit and fun.
