Human Rights support groups calls for Presidential Amnesty for condemned prisoners
The Action by Christians Against Torture, ACAT, Ghana, and the Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), in a press release has backed the global call to abolish Death Penalty in Ghana championed by the International Action by Christians Against Torture, FIAT.
This year’s celebration which happens to be the 20th was built on the theme “Death penalty: a road paved with torture”
ACAT Ghana and HRRG “appeal to the President, His Excellency, Nana Akuffo-Addo to grant Amnesty to all prisoners on death roll to life sentences.”
The group also plead with the President to immediately intervene in the case of a 75-year-old, John Narh Terkpe, who spent 20 years on death row, 26 years on a life sentence and still counting on in Nsawam Prison, Ghana. “
