Video: HRRG boss highlights the seriousness of bullying and harassment in Ghanaian schools
Human Rights Reporters Ghana boss, Joseph Kobla Wemakor, has educated the public about the seriousness of bullying and harassment in Ghanaian schools, especially second cycle.
This came after a horrifying video from Adisadel College showed a purportedly junior student being held hostage and strangled by an alleged senior student as several witnesses stood by and did nothing to intervene.
When the video was leaked, the action was strongly criticized by the populace. The Ghana Education Service also slammed the behavior and punished both the offender and anyone who witnessed without taking any action against it.
Mr. Wemakor called the situation "unfortunate," dismissed it, and demanded that the offender be held accountable.
He also discussed the several types of bullying that might occasionally occur due to a person's race, religion, or even looks. He claims it is a serious violation of people's rights and dignity and has the potential to leave victims traumatized for a very long time.
In order for schools to serve as a safe haven for students, he urged institutions to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward bullying and to establish preventive measures to be able to recognize early indicators of bullying.
