EPL week 1: Here are the Ghanaians in the Premier League and their accomplishments so far
The world’s most competitive football league, the English Premier League (EPL), commenced its 2023-2024 season during the weekend with spectacular performance across all the matches.
Twenty football teams are competing for the trophy currently held by Manchester City.
The premier league has seen huge investment in the transfer
window. So far, it leads with the highest amount used in the purchase
of new players in the transfer market among Europe’s top five leagues.
Three
promoted teams including, Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United joined 17
others that survived last season. These include; Brighton & Hove Albion,
Arsenal, Brentford, Bournemouth,
Aston Villa, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester
City, Manchester United, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves.

1. Thomas Partey -
The Ghana national team deputy captain is the only player who was part of last season's top four teams in the EPL. A transfer speculations about a possible departure from the Emirates still is ongoing. Partey played the entire 90 minutes duration in Arsenal’s first win of the season with a win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The 30-year-old was deployed in an unusual position as a right back. Partey made 96 accurate tackles in the game.
2. Jordan Ayew-
The striker commenced his 6th season at Crystal Palace in their match against newly promoted side Sheffield United.
3. Jeffrey Schlupp-
The versatile Crystal Palace player is one of the remaining Ghanaian nationals in the EPL. The 30-year-old featured in his team’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United playing the entire 90 minutes duration.
4. Antoine Semenyo:
The 23year old striker continued his EPL journey with Bournemouth in their 1-1 draw against Westham United over the weekend coming in as a substitute in the 75th minutes. Semenyo is in his second season with Bournemouth after signing for the club in January 2023.
5. Tariq Lamptey –
Brighton & Hove right back, Tariq, is in the team for the 2023-2024 season. He joined the team in the January 2020 transfer window. He had 79 appearances with 2 goals. Brighton will begin their EPL campaign on 19th August against Wolves.
With the transfer window still open, it is unclear if the English Premier
League will see some new Ghanaian entries or departures.
