Frank Fuseini Adongo eyes parliamentary return in 2025
Frank Fuseini Adongo, a former Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency in the Upper East Region, is gearing up for a potential return to Ghana's Parliament in 2025.
Having previously served as Member of Parliament for the area in the 7th Parliament, Adongo lost the Zebilla seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Cletus Apul Avoka.
The former Deputy Upper East Regional Minister is now set to participate in the NPP's parliamentary primaries scheduled for "orphan constituencies" in September 2023.
Adongo will once again face off against his familiar opponent, Dr. Kingsley Krugu, whom he defeated in the previous parliamentary primaries in 2020.
Confident in his prospects, Adongo believes he has a strong chance of reclaiming the seat for the NPP. Notably, Adongo remains the sole NPP candidate to have secured victory in the Zebilla seat.
The Zebilla seat has seen six victories by the National Democratic Congress, the People’s Convention Party (PNC) also secured a single victory in 2004 with the late Lawyer John Ndebugre while Mr. Frank Fusieni Adogo won in 2016.
The former lawmaker made history in the 2016 election by defeating Cletus Avoka with 49.4% of the total valid votes cast.
The upcoming 2024 parliamentary election in Zebilla marks the first instance of the NDC fielding a different candidate since 1992.
The incumbent MP and eight-time parliamentary candidate for the NDC, Cletus Avoka, declared his decision not to seek re-election earlier this year. On May 13, 2023, the NDC elected Mr. Ebenezer Alumire as its parliamentary candidate.
Dr. Frank Fuseini Adongo aspires to emerge victorious in the internal contest in September, paving the way for him to represent the NPP on the ballot in 2024 against the NDC's new candidate.
Outside of politics, Frank Fuseini Adongo has been serving as the Medical Director of the Faith Medical Center in Zebilla, a position he has held since 1995.
