Meta’s top three popular social media sites in Ghana
With the digital revolution on the rise one key factor is the use of social media Social Media has become a major factor contributing to the rise of the digital revolution, today it is a norm to see people engrossed in digital gadgets browsing social media sites, According to the report, there were approximately 6.60 million social media users in Ghana in January 2023 which is about 19.5 percent of the country’s total population.
American based technological company,
Metaverse, popularly known as Meta and formally as Facebook has been a
trailblazer in the social media market, Instagram, Facebook, Facebook
Messenger, WhatsApp, and Threads are
some of the notable social media platforms from the IT giant.
Here are the top three social media sites you
are likely to find installed and used on Ghanaian smartphones, tablets and
other computers.
1. WhatsApp:
WhatsApp is a leading global free short messaging service platform which offers end-to-end encrypted messaging, with several engaging features including, groups, voice and video calls, voice notes, status updates, emojis and among others.
In Ghana, today almost every smartphone user
has an active WhatsApp installed on their smartphones, most users say WhatsApp
messaging is a cost effective easy communication medium.
In January 2023, according to the report and
data published in Meta’s advertising resources, WhatsApp is still the number
one social media platform in Ghana.
2. Facebook:
Meta’s first social media platform, Facebook is considered the second most popular social media platform in Ghana, Facebook has grown into a global behemoth with over 2.8 billion monthly active users. The platform's user-friendly interface, an amalgamation of personal profiles, posts, photos, and videos, as well as its emphasis on connecting with friends and family, have solidified its position as the quintessential social networking site. Most people in Ghana especially the youth use Facebook. Data published in Meta indicates that Facebook had 5.65 million users in Ghana in early 2023.
3. Instagram:
Focused on photos and short videos allows users to showcase their creativity, passions, and daily experiences. From influencers and artists to businesses and activists, Instagram has carved out its niche in the digital realm. Most Ghanaian users say it’s a good platform for advertising as pictures and videos appeal more to the audience. Meta’s advertising tools in January 2023 indicate that Instagram had 1.70 million users in Ghana early.
