University of Ghana to be renamed after J.B Danquah - Prez. Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo suggested in a speech at the University of Ghana's 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service yesterday that the school might someday be known by the name Joseph Boakye (J.B.) Danquah in honor of his unwavering spirit and crucial role in inspiring Ghanaians to found the university.
President Akufo-Addo praised J.B. Danquah's outstanding efforts in his speech, which he gave with a blend of respect and excitement for the future. His attempts to rally the nation's resources to create the University of Ghana stood out as a particular example of his commitment and foresight.
“Indeed, in many other jurisdictions where there is less heat in their politics and more attachment to the fact of historical record, it would not have been out of place to have this university named after him. Who knows, one day it may well happen," the President said.
According to Graphic Online, the president's viewpoint on the matter was consistent with his unwavering conviction that J.B. Danquah should be given serious consideration for this exceptional honor.
He advocated for historical truth to triumph despite realizing the complexity of Ghana's divisive political terrain.
President Akufo-Addo said that J.B. Danquah's name might someday be attached to the University of Ghana in contrast to more peaceful political circumstances. He guessed that such an honor would be appropriate in a setting where historical accuracy and record preservation take precedence.
“It will be wholly appropriate and not at all far-fetched to describe Joseph Boakye Danquah as the founder of this institution(University of Ghana), a fact that, on the 75th anniversary of its existence, should be vividly recalled by all of us who are being and are the beneficiaries of his work.”
President Akufo-Addo expressed his heartfelt greetings on the occasion of the University of Ghana's diamond jubilee and praised the institution for playing a crucial part in determining the course of the country's growth.
