Andre Onana takes responsibility for Man Utd's loss against Bayern

Andre Onana was harsh in his assessment of his own performance, adamant that Bayern Munich's victory over Manchester United was due to his first-half error.

After two consecutive 3-1 losses in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag's team entered the opening round of Champions League matches under pressure. However, they had a great start at the Allianz Arena and came near when Christian Eriksen was stopped by the skill of Sven Ulreich.

Leroy Sane's meek effort was allowed to slip past his fingertips and land in the bottom corner, and while Ulreich played a key role in keeping his side level, his opponent had a moment to forget.

After another unsuccessful night for the Manchester club, Onana—who signed from Inter Milan in the summer—took full responsibility for the latest mistake of his brief United tenure.

"It's difficult to lose this way because in the beginning we started very good," Onana told TNT Sports. "After my mistake we lost control of the game. It's a difficult situation for us, for me especially because I'm the one who let the team down.

"Because of me we didn't win but we just have to move on. This is the life of the goalkeeper."

He added: "We were very good on the ball, they didn't create any chances. The first shot on target I made a mistake so I think it was the key point of the game.

"The team went down because of that mistake. I have to learn from it and be strong, move on. It's not an easy situation but I'm very happy with the comeback of the team, we were fighting until the end.

"I have a lot to prove because my start in Manchester hasn't been so good, not how I want. This was one of my worst games and it's difficult because we have big ambition. We are a big club and want to win everything.

"It's a tough time and we have to be together and continue working hard."

Ten Hag acknowledged that the team is going through a rough patch as they have already given up three or more goals in three straight games for the first time since 1978, Eurosport recorded.

The Dutchman criticized the reaction to Bayern's first goal particularly harshly. Four minutes after Sane scored the opening goal, Serge Gnabry extended Germany's lead by finding plenty of room in the United area and finishing easily.

"Mistakes are being made but you have to bounce back as a team," Ten Hag said. "If one player makes a mistake, it's done, its gone. We have to believe as a team that we can always bounce back."
With a goal from Rasmus Hojlund and two goals from Casemiro after the break, United did attempt to make a game of it, but the outcome never appeared to be in serious doubt.

"Disappointed because we should stay in the game. If you score three goals at Bayern Munich you have to take a point," Ten Hag added.
