Aston Villa humbles Brighton, thrashes them 6 goals to 1

At Villa Park, Aston Villa easily defeated previously-surging Brighton 6-1 thanks to an outstanding hat-trick from Ollie Watkins.
As a result of a lightning-fast start that saw them score three goals in the first 26 minutes, the hosts extended their winning streak in the Premier League at home to ten games in a row.
The Villa striker then grabbed his second just seven minutes later as he polished off a rapid break by cutting in from the left and rifling a low shot in at the near post.
Brighton, who could have gone level on points with leaders Manchester City with a victory, were continually exposed at the back and their misery was further compounded when Pervis Estupinan turned Moussa Diaby’s miscued shot into his own net.
Roberto de Zerbi responded with a triple change at the break with two of the substitutes combining to reduce the arrears on 50 minutes. Joao Pedro crossed from the left byline for Ansu Fati to lash in at the far post to claim his first goal for the Seagulls since signing on-loan from Barcelona, Eurosport wrote.
The visiting team appeared to be gaining momentum at this point, but Watkins busted their illusions on the 65th minute by securing the match ball with a deflected shot from inside the area. Substitute Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz then added goals five and six in the dying moments.
As a result, Villa overtakes Brighton for third place on goal differential before the rest of the weekend's games.
On Thursday night in the Europa Conference League, Villa will host Zrinjski, and Brighton will travel to Marseille in the Europa League in an effort to regain momentum.
