Following the discovery of human remains in its jaws on Friday, authorities in Florida shot and killed a 13-foot, 8.5-inch alligator, reports The Hill.

Authorities reacted to a complaint of a body being spotted in a river in Unincorporated Largo, Florida, at around 1:50 p.m. on Friday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

According to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the alligator was subsequently "humanely killed" and taken out of the river with the help of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Sabrina Peckham, 41, was the victim, according to an updated report. The manner and cause of death were still under investigation, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

On Friday, Jamarcus Bullard called the police to report spotting the human remains in the alligator's mouth. He captured the event on video.

“I threw a rock at the gator just to see if it was really a gator and like it pulled the body, like it was holding on to the lower part of the torso, and pulled it under the water,” Bullard told local station WFLA.

“They spotted it over here on this side,” Bullard told the station, “and they got this long stick thing, pulled the head out of the water, then they shot it. And once they reeled it all the way out, they stretched it out and measured it 13 feet long and they shot it again.”
