Martinelli's goal canceled as Everton plays Arsenal, gets substituted

Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal visited struggling Everton in an effort to keep their Premier League season undefeated.

After securing a late victory over Manchester United in their final game before the break to give them 10 points from their first four games, Mikel Arteta's team is feeling good and will want to carry that momentum into today's meeting. It would be a major mistake for Arsenal to lose at Goodison Park because Manchester, Liverpool, and Tottenham are now leading the pack at the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, a 2-2 away draw against Sheffield United gave Sean Dyche's team their first point of the year.

Last season, in Dyche's inaugural game in charge, the Toffees prevailed 1-0 in this matchup, and they'll be hoping for a repeat performance to get their league campaign off to a strong start.

Martinelli puts the ball in the goal in the 21st minute, but it is ruled out.

The Brazilian thought he had given Arsenal the lead with a beautiful, curving strike into the far corner, but a VAR review determined that Nketiah was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the goal was disallowed.

Martinelli has gone from bad to worse. The Brazilian is now substituted after having a goal disallowed and suffering an injury shortly after. In his place, Trossard starts playing.
