Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, had a knee injury that will terminate his season.

The team reported that Diggs, who turned 25 on Wednesday, tore his ACL on Thursday during practice. Diggs was injured during 1-on-1 practice, and an MRI later proved that he had suffered an ACL tear. Diggs was spotted leaving practice on crutches on Thursday, which prompted the story, US Today reported.

It has not yet been determined when Diggs will be able to resume playing, according to the Cowboys, but he is anticipated to miss the rest of the 2023 season. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback promised that he would return even stronger.

"Thank you for all the prayers and I appreciate everyone for checking on me!" Diggs said on social media Thursday in his first public remarks since his injury. "This is just God’s Plan. I will be back and better!"

Diggs, who became one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league by signing a five-year, $97 million contract deal with the Cowboys in July, is entering his fourth season in Dallas after being chosen out of Alabama in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Diggs has accumulated 18 interceptions in 47 games over the course of his career, including a league-high 11 during his breakout 2021 season. According to Pro Football Focus, Diggs had one interception, one forced fumble, and allowed just a 1.0 passer rating when targeted in coverage in his two starts this season. He has been a crucial component of Dallas' excellent defense, which during the first two weeks has only given up 10 points to opponents.

Following the news, star pass rusher Micah Parsons issued a word of encouragement.
