- Young Writers Award finalists who apply, get admitted, and enroll at Bennington receive a $10,000 scholarship every year for four years, totaling $40,000.
- Young Writers Award winners who apply, get admitted, and enroll at Bennington receive a $15,000 scholarship every year for four years, totaling $60,000.
Requirements for Bennington College Young Writers Awards Qualification
To be eligible for the Young Writers Awards, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be currently enrolled in 9th-12th grades or the equivalent for international students during the academic year.
Submission Categories
- Poetry: Submit three poems of any length and form. Each poem must be typed, with the author's name clearly visible on each page
- Fiction: Share a short story or one-act play, double-spaced and fewer than 1,500 words for short stories, or no more than 30 minutes playing time for scripts. Ensure your name appears on each page.
- Nonfiction: Present a personal or academic essay, typed, double-spaced, and fewer than 1,500 words, with your name clearly visible on each page.

- All entries must be original work.
- Entries must be reviewed, approved, and sponsored by a high school teacher who will serve as the contact for the competition.
- If you're homeschooled, reach out to a mentor to sponsor your writing.
