The FAO Internship Program presents a valuable learning opportunity for highly motivated young individuals, both women and men, eager to share their fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and recent research experience within the domains of FAO.
This initiative aims to attract talent from diverse backgrounds and provides selected students, currently enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degree programs, or recent graduates, with the chance to augment their academic knowledge with practical work assignments closely related to FAO's mission.
This immersive experience allows interns to gain a deeper understanding of FAO's mandate and programs while offering FAO the expertise of qualified individuals aligned with FAO's Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Benefits of FAO Internship Program
Interns receive a monthly stipend from FAO unless they are sponsored by their sending universities or other entities.
Requirements for FAO Internship Program Qualification
To qualify for the FAO Internship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate degree program in a bona fide educational institution (i.e., listed in the IAU/UNESCO database) at the time of application or be recent graduates.
- Specialization in a field relevant to the mission and work of FAO.
- Proficiency in at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO language is considered an asset.
Only language proficiency certificates from UN-accredited external providers and/or FAO language official examinations (LPE, ILE, and LRT) will be accepted as proof of language proficiency as indicated in the online applications.
- Nationals of FAO Member Nations.
- Aged between 21 and 30.
- Ability to adapt to an international, multicultural environment and strong communication skills.
- Ineligibility applies to candidates with family members (defined as brother, sister, mother, or father) employed by FAO under any type of contractual arrangement.
- Appropriate residence or immigration status in the proposed duty station before the start of the internship assignment.
