The International Labour Organization (ILO) is launching its annual Global Media Competition for the ninth time, with the objective of recognizing fair and impartial media coverage of labor migration.

Negative and stereotypical public narratives can contribute to discrimination and harmful treatment of migrant workers, including forced labor, while also challenging social cohesion.

This competition is open to both professional and student journalists and will be evaluated by a panel of international experts in migration and journalism. Winning entries will be selected based on various criteria, including creativity, accuracy, balance, and the positive portrayal of labor migration, encompassing the multifaceted aspects of migrant workers' lives.

Katerine Landuyt, Officer in Charge of the ILO Labour Migration Branch and one of the competition judges, states, "Discrimination and xenophobia against migrant workers are unfortunately everyday issues that need to be remedied.

Through the power of storytelling, this competition seeks to reward the work of journalists who shed light on migrant workers' successes, struggles, and contributions to society.

About International Labour Organisation

The International Labour Organization (ILO), the only tripartite U.N. agency, has been bringing together governments, employers, and workers from 187 member States since 1919.

Its mission is to establish labor standards, formulate policies, and create programs that promote decent work for all women and men.

The ILO's primary objectives include the promotion of labor rights, the encouragement of decent employment opportunities, the enhancement of social protection, and the strengthening of dialogue on work-related issues.

Founded in 1919 in the aftermath of a devastating war, the ILO is built on the premise that lasting global peace can only be achieved through social justice.
