PARM Stories Challenge for African Journalists 2023

PARM Stories Challenge for African Journalists 2023

PARM Stories Challenge for African Journalists 2023: Smallholder farmers, who confront numerous daily risks, are responsible for producing one-third of the world's food supply.

Enhancing their resilience is crucial for global food security and the advancement of these resilient farming communities.

Following the success of the PARM Art Challenge, the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management (PARM) proudly presents the "PARM Stories Challenge" in collaboration with media professionals.

This initiative coincides with the celebration of #WorldFoodDay and International #RuralWomenDay.

The challenge revolves around the creation of high-quality video stories that spotlight rural farmers' self-resilience in the face of agricultural risks.

These narratives should illustrate ways to bolster this resilience, ultimately boosting productivity and sustainable agri-food systems.

By doing so, the challenge contributes to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 5, and 15.

This endeavor is organized in partnership with Africa 21, a network uniting approximately 700 African journalists from 40 countries, specializing in developmental subjects.

Established in 2011, this network fosters a deeper understanding of sustainable development in Africa, particularly regarding the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

About PARM:

PARM serves as the global partnership for agricultural risk management in development.

Conceived in 2013 following G20 discussions, this platform is tasked with promoting sustainable agricultural growth, amplifying rural investments, reducing food insecurity, and bolstering the resilience of rural households against climate and market-related risks through improved risk management.

Benefits of PARM Stories Challenge:

A panel of judges will select 10 finalists, with the top three video storytellers announced as the ultimate winners of the competition. The final winners will be ranked from 1st to 3rd place.

The 10 finalists will be recognized as follows:

- The first-place video producer will embark on a visit to one or more PARM/IFAD operational countries to gain firsthand experience of United Nations projects and activities in agricultural risk management. They will also produce an additional video featuring PARM/IFAD beneficiaries.

- The subsequent two winners, along with the first-place awardee, will participate in an international conference to present their videos. These videos will receive promotion across PARM, FARM-D, and Africa 21 institutional platforms.

- The remaining seven finalists will receive certificates of participation, acknowledging their status as finalists in an international challenge. Their names and profiles will be featured in challenge communication materials.
