Requirements for University of Essex Africa Undergraduate Scholarship 2024-2025

1. To qualify for the University of Essex Undergraduate Scholarship, prospective students must meet specific criteria:
2. Be overseas fee payers and entirely self-funded.
3. Be ordinarily resident in a member country of the African Union.
4. Register for the first year (Year 1) of a full-time undergraduate degree at the University of Essex in October 2024-25.
5. Actively choose Essex as their firm choice through UCAS by 12 July 2024.
6. Accept the offer by 12 July 2024 (for Direct Applicants).
7. The award cannot be combined with any other University of Essex scholarships.
8. This scholarship is applicable for the first year of study (Year 1) at the undergraduate level in 2024-25 only
9. Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities.

Students who are not eligible for University of Essex Africa Undergraduate Scholarship 2024-2025:

1. While the scholarship opens doors for many, there are certain exclusions:
2. Students undertaking courses at East 15 Acting School.
3. University of Essex International College (UEIC) Pathway students progressing from the International Year One.
4. Students undertaking a degree that is normally delivered wholly online.
5. Students not ordinarily resident in a member country of the African Union.
6. The scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry.
7. Students transferring into the second and third year from another institution.
8. Students who are fully or partly sponsored.
9. Students who are assessed as Home fee payers.
10. Current students whose first year of undergraduate study at the University of Essex was prior to the academic year 2024-25.

Understanding "Ordinary Residence"

For eligibility assessment, applicants must have been ordinarily resident in an African Union nation for the three-year period before starting their course. Ordinarily resident signifies habitual, normal, and lawful residence in an African Union nation by choice. 

The three-year period for courses beginning in October 2024 is calculated from September 1, 2021, to September 1, 2024. Temporary absences during this period may be considered, subject to the discretion of the relevant University officer.
