Receipts Guy Goes All Out: Old Tweets of Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and NPP Figures Hit the Billboards

In a daring move that has taken political expression to the streets, a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) X user, known as Receipts Guy, has escalated the digital discourse by printing old tweets from key figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on massive billboards.

This unconventional tactic involves pulling back tweets from notable personalities, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the NPP. The billboards also feature tweets from other prominent figures within the ruling party, as well as opinions from various journalists and opinion leaders.

According to Receipts Guy, this audacious move is in response to popular demand. In a tweet, he announced, "By popular request, we have receipts on billboards now. As you can see, there is a QR code on it. That takes you to more receipts. You'll find videos and a gallery tab that leads you to many more related content. Visit Receipts Guy!"

The displayed tweets date as far back as 2012 and are accessible on receiptsguy.com. The influencer shared a snapshot of one of the billboards featuring a tweet from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, where he criticized his predecessor, the late Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, for allegedly not responding to 170 questions.

“The Vice President cannot respond to the 170 claims because the economy is in a total decline and the statistics don’t lie,” read the tweet posted on December 5, 2016, at 9:06 PM.

This innovative approach blurs the lines between digital activism and traditional political expression, sparking discussions about the evolving landscape of political discourse in Ghana.

Receipts Guy's use of billboards to showcase historical tweets reflects a strategic and attention-grabbing method of engaging the public and encouraging scrutiny of political figures. As these billboards gain traction, they raise questions about the impact of social media activism on tangible, real-world conversations.
