Carpenter Remanded for Attempted Land Fraud in Prampram

In a legal development at the Gbetsile Circuit Court, Benjamin Akpabla, a 51-year-old carpenter, has been remanded for attempting to knowingly sell a piece of land in Prampram that had already been sold. The court, presided over by Eleanor Kakra Banes Botchway, remanded Akpabla after his bail appeal was opposed by the prosecutor, Inspector Maxwell Ayeh, citing non-cooperation with the police during the initial bail process.

The accused faces charges under Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 29/60 for attempting to defraud. The complainant, Kofi Yeboah, a resident of Tema Community Four, had paid a total of GH₵40,000.00 for two plots of land to Akpabla. However, when Yeboah attempted to obtain the land document, he discovered that the land had already been sold.

The police were informed, leading to the arrest of Akpabla. Investigations revealed that the accused was aware of the prior sale of the land by his family when he purportedly sold it to Yeboah. Despite refunding GH₵15,000.00 to the police, the accused was charged after further investigations.

The Gbetsile Circuit Court has remanded Akpabla to appear again on December 6, 2023, for the filing of a witness statement. The case sheds light on the importance of due diligence in property transactions and the legal repercussions for those attempting fraudulent land dealings.
