Political Scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has raised critical questions regarding the recent decision by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to dismiss the ‘Gang of 4,’ members who publicly supported Alan Kyerematen. Dr. Amoako Baah suggests that engagement and dialogue would have been a more constructive approach instead of abrupt terminations.

Addressing the issue on Kumasi-based Hello FM, Dr. Amoako Baah urged the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, to consider alternatives to sacking party members who express dissenting opinions. He emphasized the importance of engaging individuals before making decisions about their party membership, stating that it would have prevented any potential resentment.
While acknowledging that public support for a different candidate is a breach of the party’s constitution, Dr. Amoako Baah argued that those who attended events with Alan Kyerematen might not warrant public dismissal. He questioned the benefits of publicly announcing the sackings without prior engagement, emphasizing that such announcements may not deter those who have already made up their minds.
“It would have been best for the General Secretary to engage these individuals rather than writing a letter announcing their sack. After the engagement, he writes to them announcing their sack. With that, there will be no form of anger,” Dr. Amoako Baah explained.

The NPP recently announced the expulsion of four members—Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Ohene Ntow, Hopeson Adorye, and Boniface Adbakar Siddique—for publicly supporting Alan Kyerematen, who had resigned from the party. The party stated that their actions breached the political party’s constitution.
As discussions surrounding the fallout from the ‘Gang of 4’ continue, Dr. Amoako Baah’s call for a more consultative approach adds a dimension to the ongoing conversation about party loyalty, dissent, and internal conflict resolution within political organizations.
