Beyond the €5,000 grant, the winner is paired with an experienced journalist or photographer, if necessary, to shape and publish their report both in the magazine and on the GEO website.

Prior to embarking on their reporting journey, the winner undergoes comprehensive briefings with the editorial staff. These sessions serve as a compass, guiding them in adapting their work to the distinctive style of magazine writing and offering practical advice on organizing and managing the logistics of their report. 

Throughout the project, the winner enjoys the support of a seasoned journalist from GEO's newsroom, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching experience. Additionally, insurance coverage provided by Prisma Media safeguards the winner during the production of the report.

Application Deadline for GEO Young Reporter Scholarship 2023-2024 is January 19, 2024.

Prospective applicants have until January 19, 2024, to submit their projects to GEO's editorial staff. The application file should be comprehensive, comprising a concise one-page CV, a one-page cover letter, and a synopsis of the proposed topic. 

The selection committee, led by GEO's Editor-in-Chief, meticulously evaluates each application, conducting an initial screening to identify projects aligning with GEO's editorial line and resonating with its readership. Chosen projects are then presented to the jury, tasked with selecting the most promising and impactful one.

How to Apply for the GEO Young Reporter Scholarship 2023-2024

While the application process is straightforward, it demands comprehensiveness. Interested individuals should submit their application file, including the CV, cover letter, and topic synopsis, to GEO's editorial staff. Proposed topics should align with GEO's usual areas of interest: the discovery of new territories, environmental issues, exploration of peoples and societies, and geopolitics.

Once applications are received, the selection committee, headed by GEO's Editor-in-Chief, initiates an initial screening. 

Among the highest-scoring applications, the committee identifies projects aligning with GEO's editorial vision. These chosen projects then move to the jury, responsible for selecting the ultimate winner.

The fortunate recipient is invited to engage in briefings with GEO's editorial team before commencing their project. 

This phase involves collaboration with department heads and/or the photo department, benefitting from the expertise of seasoned reporters familiar with GEO's methods and working conditions. Upon completion, the winner participates in a comprehensive debriefing session before embarking on the writing or photo selection process for their article.
