Ghana Declares Monday, January 8, 2024, Constitution Day

In a recent announcement by the Ministry of the Interior, Monday, January 8, 2024, has been officially declared a public holiday to mark the annual Constitutional Day in Ghana. This decision comes as the originally scheduled date, January 7, falls on a Sunday.

The declaration was made through a statement issued and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, on January 2, 2024.

According to the statement, while Constitution Day is a statutory public holiday, the decision to move its observance to Monday aims to accommodate the fact that the actual day falls on a weekend.

The announcement further clarified that Sunday, January 7, 2024, is the designated Constitution Day, which is recognized as a Statutory Public Holiday in Ghana.

However, in recognition of the scheduling conflict with it being on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has utilized Executive Instrument (E.I), following the guidelines outlined in Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).

By virtue of this Executive Instrument, Monday, January 8, 2024, has been formally declared an additional public holiday. Ghanaians are urged to observe this day throughout the country.

Constitution Day holds great significance in Ghana as it commemorates the nation's commitment to democratic governance and the principles enshrined in its constitution.

This day provides an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the importance of the constitution in shaping the country's political landscape and promoting democratic values.

The decision to move the observance to Monday not only ensures that the significance of Constitution Day is duly acknowledged but also provides citizens with an extended weekend to engage in various activities and celebrations.

It is a thoughtful move that reflects the government's consideration for the convenience and participation of the public in honoring this important day.

As the nation gears up to celebrate Constitution Day on Sunday, January 7, 2024, the subsequent declaration of Monday, January 8, 2024, as an additional public holiday adds an extra layer of significance to the occasion.

It is an opportunity for Ghanaians to come together, reflect on the journey of democratic governance, and celebrate the values that unite the nation.

Whether it's spending time with family, participating in community events, or taking a moment for personal reflection, the extended holiday provides citizens with a chance to actively engage in the celebration of constitutional principles.

In conclusion, the declaration of Monday, January 8, 2024, as an additional public holiday for Constitution Day demonstrates the government's commitment to upholding and honoring the democratic ideals that form the foundation of Ghana's constitution.

It is a day for unity, reflection, and celebration, bringing citizens together to appreciate the enduring principles that guide the nation's governance.
