EC to announce results of presidential election by close of 9th December

December 9, 2020

Jean Mensa, Chairman of the Electoral Commission, said that by the closing day, Wednesday 9 December 2020, the Commission will announce the results of the presidential election.

The EC, which was unable to announce the results of the election 24 hours after the ballot was cast on 7 December, cited a number of reasons for the delay in announcing the results.

“We are hoping that in the early hours of this morning we will receive two additional results and we will thereafter make the declaration for the winner of the Presidential elections,” Mrs. Jean Mensa said at a press briefing on Wednesday [December 9, 2020] dawn at 12:30 am.

It cited the rains in some regions that interrupted the voting process as one of the reasons for the delay in announcing the presidential winner.
