The Electoral Commission (EC) has demanded that Ghanaians ignore a document claimed to be the publication of the results of the parliamentary elections in circulation on social media in 2020.

The EC has explained that the text is not authentic and that it should be ignored.

It said that it was possible to purchase the gazetted results of the 2020 Parliamentary Elections from the Assembly Press

This announcement comes in the aftermath of the EC’s release of the results of the 2020 parliamentary elections.

The exercise complies with the legislation requiring the EC to report the presidential and parliamentary results of each election.

The 2020 presidential election declaration, previously released on 10 December 2020, is a statutory instrument (CI 135) signed by Mrs Mensa.

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, having, in the Presidential Election held on the 7th of December, 2020, pursuant to Article 63 (3) of the Constitution, obtained more than fifty per cent of the total number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana.”

In the 2020 presidential election, the gazetting of both the presidential and parliamentary results paves the way for some of the aggrieved candidates to file a petition for presidential elections with the Supreme Court to appeal the EC declaration.
