WCQ: How Ghana can qualify ahead of South Africa for Play-Offs

November 12, 2021

Ghana have their destiny in their hands ahead of their crucial deciding match against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.

The Black Stars let a 1-0 lead slip as they were held to 1-1 draw against Ethiopia, while South Africa beat Zimbabwe to open a three points lead over the Black Stars in Group G.

The result means South Africa need to avoid a defeat against Ghana on Sunday to steal a Play-Off spot.

Ghana however can claim the play-off spot when they beat the Bafana Bafana who head into the game with a superior one goal difference.

South Africa’s narrow win over neighbors Zimbabwe means Ghana is left with the simple task of beating the Bafana Bafana to cancel their superior goal difference and get level on points with the South Africans.

As a result, the Black Stars will qualify for the Play-Offs by virtue of the number of goals scored to break the tie.
