African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2023/24 AERC PhD Scholarships. These are available for applicants from both Francophone and Anglophone sub-Saharan African nations who aspire to pursue studies in Economics at accredited universities.

Founded in 1988, AERC has played a crucial role in addressing the expertise gap among economists in both Francophone and Anglophone African countries. This year, the Consortium is opening its doors for applications to the PhD Scholarship Programme for the 2023/2024 academic year, presenting a unique chance for driven individuals across sub-Saharan Africa.

The scholarship’s objective is to promote development in sub-Saharan Africa by nurturing local professionals in economics, emphasizing support in policy research and advanced training.

AERC Scholarship 2024/2025 application Eligibility Criteria

For eligibility in the AERC PhD Scholarships 2023, candidates must meet the following criteria:

– Gain admission to any of the partner universities.

– Hold at least a Second Class Honors (Upper Division) or its equivalent in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a related field from a reputable university.

– Possess a Masters degree, inclusive of coursework and thesis, in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or related areas from a recognized institution. The coursework should encompass microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative techniques, and econometrics.

– Having at least one relevant article published in a peer-reviewed journal is a bonus.

– Demonstrated involvement in economic management, research, and/or training in the public sector is a plus.

– Women and candidates from post-conflict and fragile regions, particularly AERC PhD Bridge Programme graduates from 2017 and 2018, are strongly urged to apply.
