In Sunday’s La Liga encounter between Getafe and Osasuna, Mason Greenwood made his first appearance in a football game in 20 months.

Following an internal inquiry, United confirmed last month that Greenwood would be departing the team. The attacker made a late transfer deadline day swap to Getafe, despite reports that rival English clubs were keeping an eye on his position.

On January 22, 2022, in a Premier League game between the Red Devils and West Ham, Greenwood made his final on-field appearance. That came before his arrest and United’s suspension of him. The CPS withdrew all criminal allegations against the football player, including attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault causing actual bodily damage, in February of this year.
The 21-year-old was included in Getafe’s matchday squad to play Osasuna on Sunday, but he was only named as a substitute, with strikers Borja Mayoral and Jaime Mata starting up front. The player had not been signed by Getafe in time to be registered to face Real Madrid before the international break earlier this month.

Juanmi Latasa was replaced by Greenwood in the 77th minute of the match at the Coliseum Perez with the score knotted up at 2-2.
After joining the Spanish club earlier this month, the forward responded to a question regarding his fitness by saying: “I have been training for about four or five months to get up to pace and I did a session with my teammates this morning, so I feel quite well.”
Ruben Reyes, the sporting director at Getafe, stated earlier this month that Greenwood’s signing was “just the same” as any other. We did what we do, which is to sign players who are available to sign, he told reporters. We don’t need to deal with anything (off the field).
It is a one-year loan, Reyes continued. On a player (like him), getting a buy option is exceedingly challenging. He’ll be around all year. Although they are minor matters, there are internal discussions that we try not to disclose. They were appreciative of our efforts and our conviction.
“We’re thrilled about him. He was a player we were aware existed. We worked on it, accumulated data, and gradually realized that there might be a chance. We spent a lot of time talking to his family, his father, and his people.
