According to sources, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero revealed on Wednesday that Los Angeles is trading Akers to Minnesota. The Rams will receive Akers and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange, the Vikings will send a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick to the Rams, the teams later revealed, NFL reported.

To put it mildly, Akers’ tenure in Los Angeles was turbulent. The former second-round pick began his career by averaging 4.3 yards per rush as a rookie in 2020. However, owing to an Achilles injury sustained during offseason practice, he only participated in one regular-season game in 2021.

The fact that he came back at all that season is still a fantastic accomplishment, but in 2022, after winning a Super Bowl with Los Angeles, Akers was dissatisfied with his position in the Rams offense. He then asked to be traded and left the team while waiting to hear what would happen to him.

After the trade deadline, Los Angeles made the decision to keep Akers and welcomed him back to the squad. Later in 2022, he went on to record some of his best performances of his career, but he was unable to maintain that form through 2023.
In Los Angeles’ season-opening victory over Seattle, backup Kyren Williams surpassed Akers, and as Akers anticipated losing snaps to Williams in the coming weeks, a rift arose between the coaching staff and the running back. Akers was a healthy scratch for the Rams’ eventual loss to the 49ers because McVay choose to play Week 2 without him, therefore ending his time in Los Angeles.
Akers travels to Minnesota in search of a bigger role in Kevin O’Connell’s offense. The Vikings could use the assistance of another hard-running back after gaining only 69 yards on the ground in two games with a backfield featuring Alexander Mattison.
After officially wrapping up his time in Los Angeles, Akers will try to fill this position with Minnesota.
