Poem: The Pledge

December 29, 2020

The Pledge

As I climb above puberty

I pledge to tall dad’s level

Our Lord of mercenaries

The hearts he owns

Their obsequiousness

Must I abnegate those privileges?

I won’t silly stomach such a story

Dad’s take-home is overweight

No utility bill sleeps under his roof

He dispenses fuel like fetching water

And who pays for these ‘pleasures’?

The people he serves to serve him

So, must I abnegate those privileges?

I won’t silly stomach such a story

His antidotes for the constituent birds;

few notes, bag of rice, and party shirts.

And they’ll forget the abyss of his abysmal term

This is the kind of seed I need to water

But I have not seen imbecile birds like these

They’ve sent him to the August house again

If you clap for my dad, will you die?
